Mission 4/1 Earth & NFNA Summer CSA Share

Join us, for engaged earth care during the UCC’s 50 great days of Mission 4/1 Earth: April 1 – May 19, 2013!  First Church is participating in the UCC’s 50 Great Days of greening up, powering down, and environmental advocacy.

Mission Earth Banner - Week 1

Monday, April 1 Sunday, May 19: 50 Great Days!

Participation can be as simple or as in-depth as you decide – the goal is to involve all ages in understanding more about our precious environment and to create a focus on environmental advocacy, powering down to reduce energy usage and working collectively and individually – and in our families – to green up Vermont.  Mission 4/1 Earth “time cards” will be available in church each Sunday to record the hours given, advocacy letters written and trees planted.  Watch as our First Church Mission 4/1 Earth banner tells our environmental awareness raising story as the tree gains leaves (hours); birds (letters) and the flower vine grows (trees planted) each week!

Information about how to take part will be available each Sunday during our fellowship gathering (11am to noon) AND you can learn more from the UCC Mission 4/1 Earth website

Looking for a great source for fresh veggies this summer?  We are collaborating with AALV (Association of Africans Living in Vermont) again this year to offer a generous, 16 week CSA organic vegetable share! Learn more about registering for a New Farms for New Americans CSA share for summer 2013 by clicking here.

Sunday, April 14: Professor Valerie Esposito, Ph.D., Program Director for the Environmental Policy Program at Champlain College, will be our guest at our next “First Church Forum” on Sunday, April 14 at 11:15am. Valerie brings a local and global perspective to this contemporary issue. Please join us for this special conversation.

Saturday, May 4: Green Up Day in your community OR in the morning at First Church. Gather at 8:30am for coffee and bagels – we’ll get started at 9:00am. Please bring rakes, hand tools for gardening, work gloves and a wheelbarrow if you can. If it’s raining, we’ll do clean up in the church! Please contact the church office with questions or to RSVP.

Sunday, May 19: Mission 4/1 Earth Celebration at First Church!
