October Book Group: “A Thousand Sisters” – Mon, Oct 28

The Women of the Church Book Group invites all women to participate in their discussion of Lisa Shannon’s book, A Thousand Sisters, on Monday, October 28th at 7 p.m.

The author, Lisa Shannon, a leading advocate for women of the Congo, has created an international movement which has sponsored more than 1,400 war-affected Congolese women through Women for Women International.  A Thousand Sisters details her journeys into war affected eastern Congo in January through February 2007 and May 2008. Pulitzer Prize winning author Alice Walker wrote about “A Thousand Sisters”, “I can’t imagine a more perfect book for arousing the power of American women (or women and men everywhere) to rush to the defense of our Congolese sisters.”

Shannon will be the Congo Week Keynote Speaker at Saint Michael’s College on Wednesday, October 23, at 7pm at the McCarthy Arts Center in a program that is free and open to the public. Lucy Samara is organizing a group to carpool from the church at 5:45p.m. Please RSVP about carpooling.
