First Church will host Burlington’s CROP HUNGER WALK on Sunday, October 12:
Many are needed to walk, help raise funds, donate money, and/or volunteer to make the 2014 CROP Hunger Walk Day a success. We need volunteers to register walkers, serve as crossing guards, and help the day run smoothly! The new route for our walk is less than 3 miles and includes stops at many of the international markets on North Street and a tour of the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. Registration begins at First Church at 1:30pm and the walk itself will start at 2:00pm following a brief opening ceremony. After the walk, we will offer refreshments – cookies and cider – to all of the walkers.
Our CROP Hunger Walk, one of more than 2,000 CROP Hunger Walks in the U.S., provides financial assistance to JUMP – the Joint Urban Ministry Project (5%), the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (20%), and – most significantly – to the international hunger relief and development work of Church World Service (75%).
Our CROP Hunger Walk has a Facebook page – please take a look (if you use Facebook or not) and “Like” our page if you do. All are invited to register online to raise funds. Pledges can be made by credit card to those who register online. Donations by check should be made payable to CWS/CROP – donations sent to the church or put in the offering plate will be given to one of our walkers.
For more information about walking or volunteering on Walk Day, please drop by the CROP Hunger Walk table during fellowship gatherings in the Chapel on Sundays &/or contact Director of Outreach Ministries and CROP Committee Chair, Lucy Samara. Thank you! -The Mission Committee
