Archaeology & The Historicity Of The Bible: Apr 17-May 8

David Lightbody ArchaeologyDavid Lightbody, First Church member and and former Lecturer in Egyptology at the University of Glasgow, will lead this fascinating education series at 9am on Sunday mornings, April 17 through May 8.

Today, theologians continue to investigate the historical accuracy of the bible. Groups such as The Jesus Seminar have evaluated the ‘historicity’ of the bible based mostly on interpretations of biblical texts. Archaeology, however, provides another route to the biblical past:

  • How is the archaeological approach different than the theological one?
  • How does archaeology illuminate the arguments between biblical ‘maximalists’ and biblical ‘minimalists’?
  • Is archaeology as a science compatible with the Bible?
