Congregational Conversation Report
Dear Members and Friends,
Last Sunday (4/3), we had a good turnout of 60+ members attending a Congregational Conversation meeting following the 10am service. For those who were unable to attend, I wanted to update you on our discussion.
Our Interim Senior Minister Search Team reported good news: several applications have been received and the team will soon begin conducting interviews. The team has been good at keeping the congregation informed and will continue to provide us with any updates.
Kim Wichert, our interim Treasurer, reported good news: we hope to achieve an $8K surplus by our April 30, 2016 budget year end.
Lastly, I presented next year’s 2016-2017 budget beginning on May 1st. We spent most of our discussion focused on staffing since 68% of our church expenses are rightfully for personnel costs. And, to use a timely Vermonty- term, this year’s budget “sugars down” to… Do we choose to support a two minister church? Lee and Sally each provided their candid views that two ministers are needed to provide the level of support our church needs. A single minister scenario would substantially alter our church and is one they do not recommend.
So, it’s up to us to have a successful Stewardship campaign! We’ve set a pledge goal of $486K, allowing us to support current staffing and two ministers. Stewardship’s theme is “Living Thankfully – Giving Thankfully”. If you haven’t attended a Living Room Conversation, I encourage you to sign up for after the 8 or 10 am service this Sunday or on Monday evening the 11th. Please prayerfully consider increasing your pledge to ensure the continued mission and ministry of First Church as we know it under the leadership of two full time ministers. Together, our gifts can continue to support our church and the important ministry it has provided for over 200 years in downtown Burlington.
